The comparisions made in the Oracle press release between RDBMS products are totally misleading. Oracle fail to mention that the Alpha 8400 processor is rated at 300MHz. The SPARC processors used in the Sybase and Informix benchmarks were rated at 85MHz and 60MHz. When Informix and Sybase release DEC Alpha benchmarks, I think you will see the truth behind these false and misleading claims. Likewise, the recent Sybase claims about Informix are also suspect. Sybase claim the leading TPC-C performance on Sun. However, they are comparing a benchmark on the newer 85MHz processors with an older Informix benchmark on 60MHz processors. It is easy to demonstrate a 28% DBMS performance "advantage" when the new hardware gives you an extra 40% for free. regards, Dave ====
