Numeric codes for the page types
Posted in 1998
Hi, advanced users/admins.
I am writing a program to dump pages in a format I like. However, it
would help if I could easily identify the page types by the value in the
pg_type member of the page header structure. I have been able to
conjecture some types:
OnLine reserved Page: 0x1000
Chunk Free List Page: 0x0008
Bitmap Page: 0x0004
Partition Header Page: 0x0002
Home data page: 0x2001
Index page: 0x0020 (root), 0x0010 (node), 0x0080 (leaf)
Logical Log Page: 0x0100
Index page (level?): 0x0070
And so on. Actually, not so on because I don't recognize all possible
page types on sight. I am also using the OnLine 5 Advanced Admin Guide
(and kicking myself that I did not cajole my manager into sending me to
the DSA-7 advanced class before leaving Informix ;-) so I see that the
logical log page, f'rinstance, can be marked 0100,0200,0400, with the
latter two being ORed on the 0100 (I think). Also, I found a page whose
type was 0x0070 but looked like an index page on a system catalog.
The first 3 lines of that dump look like:
00200036 0EBC35BD 001C0070 03DC0446 00000000 00000000 73797366 72616761
75746820 20202020 2020696E 666F726D 69780000 000B0000 00587374 78686F74
6B642020 20202020 20202020 696E666F 726D6978 00000047 73746763 6E747263
and the corresponding ASCII looks like:
~ ~6~~5~~~~p~~~F~~~~~~~~sysfraga
uth informix~~~~~~~Xstxhot
kd informix~~~Gstgcntrc
So it's probably a page type undefined as yet in OnLine 5.0.
Does someone out there have this kind of intimate knowledge? If know of
a VAR (I met at the User Conference in '95) who used this kind of info
for an off-line backup/restore utility. While I don't have my sights
that high, I think it might be useful where oncheck -pP fails me.
While I'm at it, does anyone here really *like* onlog output? Is there
any publicly documented source for the operation types - like BEGIN,
HINSERT, RINSERT, and the like?
Thanks much.
