Informix's page structures are a bit different between the two versions. You need to unload to ascii using either the unload or dbexport commands and then load using the load, dbimport, or dbload commands. The databases we migrated were too big to unload to ascii (100+ GB). We used a named pipe to unload the data from the 5.X instance and then load into the 7.x instance. If you can turn logging off on both the 5.x and 7.x instances, you can use the "insert into <7.x table> select * from <5.x table>". This is the fastest way to migrate your data into 7.2.
