I like having a dedicate DBMS server and a dedicated appserver separate. This gives you more flexibility to upgrade and tune the systems independently to optimize application operations and server operation. In addition you have the option down the road to either upgrade the appserver or add a second one and segregate users from each other. This all reduces resource conflicts like the database and appservers both requiring IO service from the OS. Art S.
