NT poses more problems than that. NT is really a single GUI, so if you must use NT, use it as a server and use another machine as the client. Now, if you are planning to use 4GL on the client and use a network connection to the server, then you are limited in functionality, and their are better PC based client/server tools. Don't get me wrong, I luv 4GL if it is used in the right situation. As to the logic of writing a *single* app for all platforms, this tends to create more problems than it solves. Client/Server is a different paradigm that *dumb* ttys. What I recommend is that if you want to create reusable code accross all platforms, is to write your business logic in C. And to layer your apps so that each level could be replaced. (This solution if followed has always been sucessful.) Why C? Simple. C is the most portable language around. (PC, UNIX, Mainframe...) If we also believe the marketing types at Informix, SPL will exists, but there will also be C and Java server side *SPL* options too! I realize that this gets slightly off topic, but my point is chosing the right tool for the right job. If you look at the strengths of 4GL, and the few strengths of NT, you will see that it is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. 4GL on NT is not a good fit. (Online on Linux is a better fit! ;-) FYI, if you read WSJ, see page B4 on IBM's new DB2..... -Mikey -- #include <std_disclaimer.h> /* Mike Segel (MS385) */ #include <No_Spam.h> #ifdef OFFENDED_BY_CONTENT The author takes no responsibility for this post.
