SAP and Informix Announce First Joint U.S. Site Applied Micro Circuits Corporation to Use SAP R/3 System with the INFORMIX- OnLine Database Server Menlo Park, Calif. (October 18, 1993) Informix Software, Inc. (NASDQ:IFMX) and SAP America, announced today that they will provide a complete software system based on the INFORMIX-OnLine database server and SAPUs R/3 software system to AMCC (Applied Micro Circuits Corporation), a San Diego-based manufacturer of high-performance integrated circuit products for major telecommunications, data communications, computer, aerospace and defense markets. This is the first site in the U.S. to utilize the joint SAP and Informix solution. The SAP R/3 System will contain complete financial, materials management, order entry, sales, distribution, and MRPII applications software needed to run AMCCUs business and engineering operations. INFORMIX-OnLine, a high performance on-line transaction processing relational database server will be integrated with the R/3 System to manage the data. "This is the first result in the U.S. of a strong mutually beneficial worldwide partnership between SAP and Informix," said Steve Sommer, vice president of marketing at Informix. "We were looking for 90s technology that provided solid functionality, high performance, and a complete integration that could be used in a highly heterogeneous environment," said Buck Marty, vice president of business services at AMCC. "We felt confident going with Informix and SAP because they both have state-of-the-art technology and proven experience in the open systems marketplace." "AMCC needs to take very technical manufacturing data and incorporate it with other operational data in order to make important decisions about their business," said Sommer. "The integrated Informix and SAP solution will give AMCC greater power to share and analyze data among different departments and improve their competitive status in the custom chip business." "In order to stay ahead of the competition, organizations must focus on improving their business processes," said Klaus P. Besier, president of SAP America. "Our software combined with InformixUs high performance relational database technology, will help AMCC better manage all of their business and engineering functionsQ ultimately improving the quality of their business." Implementation of the Informix and SAP system is expected to be completed by June of 1994 on release 2.1 of SAP's R/3.
