Ok I'll try again.
Please help. I am running Informix v7.1 under UNIX on a digital 1000 server.
We have been running fine for several years, with the 'normal' bumps and
grinds. Lately, checkpoints will stop and then online froze, a reboot has
helped as a Band-Aid only. The other morning, noticing checkpoints had
stopped and the system was froze, I tried a force checkpoint but it froze -
waited 30 minutes. Tried to take it off-line without success, finally had to
shut down the server. On reboot it froze in recovery mode saying to check
online-log. It said...
13:04:44 DR: DRAUTO is 0 (Off)
13:04:59 INFORMIX-on-line Initialized -- Shared Memory Initialized.
13:04:59 Physical Recovery Started.
13:04:59 Physical Recovery Complete: 21 Pages Restored.
13:04:59 Logical Recovery Started.
13:04:59 Logical Recovery allocating 10 worker threads
('OFF_RECVRY_THREADS').
13:06:07 Logical Log 2772 - Backup Started
13:06:07 Logical Log 2772 - Backup Completed
13:17:55 The Master Daemon Died
13:17:55 PANIC: Attempting to bring system down
It looks like a bad log file. So how do I get rid of a bad logical log file
from off-line mode?
No help!!!
I had to do a cold restore, loosing a days work, as some pin head switched
out the wrong tapes. I guess they can't read labels.
This particular Informix instance is small, just 2 dbspaces and 2 active
databases with maybe 15 users entering data, and a dozen just browsing, plus
3 other databases for archival and testing purposes residing here. And there
is no testing going on, Only I do that.
I am self taught and on my own here, befuddled, so what should I be looking
for?
What could cause the checkpoints to just stop?
I've seen the "daemon died" message in v5.08 when a back-end has been
killed. And I've seen the freezing on v7.24 on HP-UX.
Really, you should get help from Tech Support.
