anybody know just how much disk space increase I should expect on a migration(rebuild) of our clients 5.x instance to 11.70 64 bit ? Currently they have three databases using about 14 gigs spread out over 9 dbspaces, two of which are blobspaces. AIX 6.1 just need a rough guage as I need to provide an estimate up front on increased disk space needed. The instance has about 40% of its disk space currently free across all dbspaces exception being the critical dbspaces. Thanks, Mark
That should be plenty. Index keys will increase by 4bytes each and the internal rules about when to split an index node will be different than in 5.xx. Also, 5.xx had attached indexes only. Version 11's detached indexes will allocate independent extents which by default will be sized according to the ratio of the rowsize to the key length multiplied by the existing extent size of the table. In 11.70 you can control the extent sizing of the indexes independently, but you will need to size the extents of the tables and indexes intelligently. The existing table extents include space for index pages which will not be in those extents in 11.xx. If you don't do the calculations, empty extent space allocated to the tables may suck up space needed by index extents. Art Art S. Indeed, there are three new system databases which will reside in the rootdb dbspace. They are not large, but may require you to increase your rootdb space a bit. Art Art S.
