Thought it might be... Thanks. Glad to be of service - even if just by accident :-) A serial field is a bewwwwdiful candidate for an index. I'd be hard-pressed to think of a reason not to have one. Even if "there aren't that many rows in the table" I wouldn't justify dropping the index for that reason. Indexes aren't just for performance, they are sometimes for logic too. Although an index on a tiny table is nominally "less efficient" - welllll, compare that loss of efficiency with the cost of any work on a huge table, with or without the help of indexes. -- I have a simple philosophy that gets me through life: Never buy cheap toilet paper.
