Hi all,
I have database production using Informix Dynamic Server Version 9.40
FC5 on HP Itanium rx4640 machine with HP-UX operating system
And I have IBM x3400 machine using IDS 9.40 for backup informix database
server with Linux Centos 5.1.
I have run dbexport on production server (hp rx4640), then dbimport it
to backup server (ibm x3400).
it was takes 7 hours for dbimport, the total size of dbexport is 16 GB
My questions:
1. Why it takes long time for dbimport?
2. Does it possible if I run ontape -s on production server, then
restore it (ontape -r) on backup server?
3. Please give advice what the best should I do to backup informix
database from rx4640 to ibmx3400 with different OS
thanks in advance

That does seem a bit slow. I think it works out to about 40MB/min.

No.

You can try my dbexport/dbimport replacement utility, myexport, which
can use the HPLoader and parallel loading to get the job done faster.
To use myexport/myimport you will also need the following packages from
the IIUG Software Repository: my utils2_ak (for myschema), Jonathan
Leffler's sqlcmd (the latest), and Ravi Krishna's myonpload utility.

Of course, if you're licensed for it, you could set up Enterprise
Replication and make the IBM box a slave replicate.

thanks Art,
I want to use myexport/myimport for backup and restore my production
server to backup server
I have downloaded myexport.shr.gz, utils2_ak.gz, myonpload_2.1.zip,
sqlcmd-85.00.tgz from www.iiug.org
first I extract sqlcmd-85-00.tgz, then I run ./configure, and I get
error message:
configure: error: Could not find a valid ESQL/C compiler
where do I get ESQL/C compiler for linux?
Can you give me step by step how to install all
software(myexport,utils2_ak,myonpload and sqlcmd) in my linux?
I have searched on uncle google, but until now I couldn't find any help
for install myexoprt/myimport
