Hello Everybody, I need some help/guidance from you folks. Env.IDS.9.30 UC3 AIX 5.1 (32 bits) We are in the process of moving our 32 bits env. to 64 bits, I want to know the latest and stable version of IDS 9.4 for 64 bits and is it possible to port 64 bits IDS on 32 bits AIX version which we have currently, reason for doing this is : we don't want to upgrade both IDS and Unix at the same ofcourse we will do it if there is no choice. Thanks in advance, Sushil.. _________________________________________________________________ Let the new MSN Premium Internet Software make the most of your high-speed experience. http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-us&page=byoa/prem&ST=1
Once you move to 64bit you cannot reverse to 32bit without having to do an unload and load of the data. (If possible) I would upgrade the OS first, and when it is stable then upgrade Informix to 64bit. It will save you a big headache in troubleshooting. Remember, always one step at a time, and NEVER compromise the data.... 64bit Informix has to run on 64bit platform to answer your question. "Sushil Shir...." Hi,
the latest and greatest will be 9.40.FC3 (the FC telling
that it is a 64-bit product), to be available soon (a couple
of weeks at most).
There are also 9.40.FC1 and 9.40.FC2, both GA.
All three above are for AIX 5.1 and certified for AIX 5.2 (5L).
You cannot run any of these on 32-bit AIX. If you want to stay
with AIX 32-bit you have to stay with 32-bit products (i.e.
9.40.UCx).
Furthermore, once you've (automatically) converted your
database(s) from 32-bit to 64-bit (i.e. switched from a .UCx
product to .FCx), there's no simple way to go back to 32-bit.
(dbexport and dbimport would then be necessary, this always
works.)
Regards, Martin

You can migrate from a 64-bit 9.30FC*/9.40FC* to a 32-bit 9.30UC*/9.40UC* database without exporting/importing and is quite easy to do. There is a shell script in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/update.sh that will convert the relevant tables. Please read the release notes. The information is in there on how to revert to a 32-bit version from a 64-bit version. Obviously, by going to 64-bit you will be able to address the 32-bit limitation of approximately 2.5GB of total memory. Also if you go with 940FC3/9.30UC6 you can use > 2GB SHMVIRTSIZE and are not limited to 12 shared memory segments that you have with AIX 4.3/5.1 32-bit.
