RE: Using an autoloader tape drive to receive level-0 archives?
Posted in 2004
I am currently doing this on my system.
I have a backup script, that kicks off ontape, but sends all output to a log file instead of to standard output.
I have a while true loop inside the script, that sleeps for 300 seconds, and then does a tail on the log file to see if it needs another tape.
If it does, I swap the tapes, and gives ontape a carriage return, so that it can continue again ...

I've never used an autoloader, and I haven't been able to find any sort of
definition as to what one is meant to do. What functionality does the word
'auto' give to the tape drive?
