Earlier these CASE tools were shipped by Westmount, then - by Cadre. We have some owner original GRINDERY technologies. GRINDERY is intended for a computer-aided generation (within the information systems development technology proposed by DataX/FLORIN, Inc.) of the typical database interfaces in Informix-4GL or Informix-NewEra or SuperNova (Four Seasons Software) code from data structures developed within VantageTeam. Also we have GRINDERY Grabber to "re-design" data structures using exisying database. GRINDERY provides an automatic generation of screen forms and correspondent interface functions for data structures that implement information objects like hierarchcal dictionaries and references. The application development includes building the information model of the application with Cayenne's VantageTeam (Yourdon methodology, versions 3.1 and 3.2) and generating its code for the two Informix Software's development tools/languages (4GL and NewEra) and one Four Season's Software's tool/language: SuperNova. The VantageTeam package is used in a customized form. The customization makes it possible to automatically generate the application code from a unified information model suitable for both 4GL text-mode interface and NewEra or SuperNova GUI. You can also automatically generate the functions of the extended user interface, not generated by the standard VantageTeam tool. The product has been customized in accordance with Cayennes's recommendations conserning customizatioin of VantageTeam for particular needs. New attributes have been added in the list of attributes for fields, tables and relations in the ER-diagram and an attribute of type of module generating has been added in the Structure Chart Diagram. Also programs have been developed in the TCL language to generate file representations of SQL models, screen form prototypes (PER for 4GL and WIF for NewEra and LGC for SuperNova), standard functions for manipulating with tables (for 4GL) and application's modules (for NewEra and SuperNova). Options have been added in the menu of VantageTeam or GRINDERY Grabber for choosing the type of code generating and for calling the above mentioned code generating programs. The customized VantageTeam made it possible to automatically implement in 4GL the standard for DataX/FLORIN approach database interface, including use of the SERIAL data type for primary key fields and standard operation set for pivot entities (with operations providing work with lists of values and screen arrays). DataX/FLORIN implemented its technology for computer-aided development of 4GL applications with customized code generation in its product GRINDERY One-Step 4GL. Here, we mention the 4GL code generation because it is possible to perform the computer-aided development of NewEra or SuperNova(that is, GUI) applications in two steps, concentrating on the pilot project and the program functionality at the first step and on the forms of the user interface at the second one. The text 4GL code implementation, which demands minimum programmer intervention, perfectly matches the needs of the first step.
