Re: Server Specs.

It's not easy making a recommendation simply based on the number of users: it depends on what the users are doing. One or two users doing large selects or inserts can impact a system greatly. 40 users doing ocassional inserts or selects on indexed columns could be just about nothing. Everyone's mileage varies. But two things stand out to me: If possible, upgrade to Online and start using Raw I/O. Raw I/O can result in magnitudes better I/O performance. Of course, Online is a better performing DB in general. Although, if, as I suspect, you are, as a school district constrained for a resource to be able to administer Online, it may make sense to stick w/ SE since it demands far less in terms of administration and is much simpler to use. Also, move away from SCO OpenServer to either Unixware or wait for SCO Gemini (UnixWare SVR5) at the end of the year. OpenServer is kind of a stodgy old OS. Your performance will be much better w/ Unixware or Gemini. HTH. Stubbs wrote: > I need to submit the specs. necessary to order a > server.
