FW: 4js-D4gl: RUN another program from menu system replaces menu
Posted in 1999
Tansi, Instead of using a 4gl program as a menu to launch other programs, I utilized the Start menu. I set up a directory under the programs menu to contain all the menu's our users had before. Inside each menu I put shortcuts pointing a centralized directory that contains all the D4gl files. This allowed users easy access to all of their programs. I also found that you can create a shortcut just to *.42r, no need to do a fglrun. You can set through the shortcut properties to run window minimized and this would cause the DOS window to be opened minimized with the 4gl program opening normally. After a while this was determined to be cumbersome to use the start menu. I then made a shortcut to the main menu directory and placed it on the desktop. This utilizes windows file manager to work as the menu, you can then go under the View option and set the display to List. The users were then able to open the directory with the programs listed. This would allow the users to have one or all the menus open and then be able to run any programs they needed. Hopefully this will be of some help. Tahpwe mewasin! I would like to have menu app constantly open, and active, so that user can run another program from menu app without the need to close currently running program, or open another menu application. I think I have seen this working like that before somewhere, but now I'm not sure how to achieve this. In short, is there a way to preserve the window of app that is calling another app with RUN statement?
