RE: TEXT where?
Posted in 2001
Hi,
There is a very good description in the Admin guide of the IDS.
BLOB types like TEXT and BYTE can be stored either in page of DBSpace and
page of BLOB space.
The structure of the pages are different.
- In case of BLOB space the page size is can be defined by onspaces, but it
should be multiple of the page size of the system (2k or 4k). However you
can store only one BLOB data type on one page. (In case of small BLOB data
is not efficient, because of large unused areas in the remaining part of the
BLOB pages.)
- In case of DBSpace the page size is fix, but you can store more BLOB
types on one page.
So, if you want to store small data in a BLOB type like a comment data or
something like this. You should store them in DBSapce, and you don't need to
specify the storage space in SQL. But if you have fixed length large
structures like images, you should store them in BLOB space by using "IN
<name of the BLOB Space>" storage specifier.
Good Luck,
Andor Rozsnyai

Subject: TEXT where?
Hi,
If I define a column to be of type TEXT using the nice interface of
dbaccess,
it asks be if I want the data to be stored in a blobspace, or in the
dbspace.
What happens if I send the CREATE TABLE command with a TEXT column without
any other especification? Where would the data be stored?
Saludos... :-)
