Yes, that should work. Informix verifies users using the OS' login facilities, so if a remote user has a valid login that the server machine recognizes and can otherwise remotely access the server machine, IDS will permit the connection. In networking there is the concept of a 'trusted' host. On UNIX this is recorded in the /etc/hosts.equiv file or in the .rhosts file in the users' home directories. The former lists remote systems which are trusted by the local system for resource sharing and optionally a list of users whose logins from that particular host are to be trusted (default trust all users from that host). The latter lists remote systems which are to be trusted to permit this user to login remotely from and/or access resources remotely from without requiring a login id and password. Optionally the file lists remote login ids permitted to login to the local system from that particular remote system AS this user by providing the correct local userid and password. I don't know how Windows handles trusted system setups. Art S.
