Perhaps an off-list e-mail to people you see making unjustified digs at Americans might be more appropriate and would reflect better on you? And perhaps in your replies you could be a bit more contrite rather than lecturing others on how to behave? Nobody wants to see personal abuse or abuse of different nationalities of any kind on this list from anyone. Ben.

I completely agree with you that DE did start a flame war. Richard Spitz made a harmless joke (note smiley) about the US's isolationist tendencies. As a US citizen, I didn't take offense and really couldn't see why any US citizen would take offense to this. Every US citizen knows that when you are talking "international" that you are including both Alaska and Hawaii. ;-) If this offended DE he could have handled it more tactfully and even offline.
