Can we change the password of the informix user?

My ODBC drivers for Informix are unable to resolve the password for my Informix user 'informix'. This is the default user who is an Win OS-level user. If the change the password of the user does this conflict with the database's ability to authenticate the user? Also can we create users at Win OS level and assign them to either Informix-Admin or IX-USERS? Can these users access the informix server by suplying their OS level passwords? pls help Thanks
