On AIX 5.3 with IDS, oninit failed with "Fatal error in shared memory creation" / shmget EEXIST "shared memory already exists" (key 52604801), even though no server processes were running; the poster asked whether a reboot was the only cure. Replies said no: use ipcs to identify the orphaned informix shared memory segments and semaphores and remove them with ipcrm (one poster supplied an awk one-liner to build the ipcrm command), or alternatively change SERVERNUM in the config so IDS uses different keys and clean up the stale segments afterwards. An other method is to change your SERVERNUM in the configurationfile,
IDS will use other shared memory addresses.
After that you can cleanup your shared memory
