Hi, I was recently assigned the task of installing a Informix dataserver. I am basically a Sybase/Sql Server dba and have absolutely no background in Informix. I had installed the Informix 9.4 rmp on Linux. $ ps -aef | grep informix gives: root 2248 1 0 May02 ? 00:00:00 /opt/informix/bin/nsrexecd root 2250 2248 0 May02 ? 00:00:00 /opt/informix/bin/nsrexecd root 2251 1 0 May02 ? 00:00:00 /opt/informix/bin/nsrd root 2256 2251 0 May02 ? 00:00:00 /opt/informix/bin/nsrmmdbd root 2259 2251 0 May02 ? 00:00:00 /opt/informix/bin/nsrindexd root 2260 2251 0 May02 ? 00:00:00 /opt/informix/bin/nsrmmd -n 1 Now I am stuck and do not know how to proceed further. I tried creating the demo databases through dbaccessdemo9. It asks me to run onspaces utility. $onspaces -c -S s9_sbspc -g 4 -p ./s9_sbspc -o 0 -s 2000 shared memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER 'dbname' I have been going through the Administrator documentation but so far have not been able to figure out how to proceed. After installing the rpm what is the next step? How do I initialise the sqlhosts file? How do I create a dbspace? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Jaishankar
