IDS 9.21.UC4 One of our varchar(255) field is turing out to be inadequate due to new requirement. Our business analyst says that the field should be able to take upto 1024 bytes. I have two options: (a) char(1024) (b) lvarchar I haven't used much lvarchar. Can anyone confirm who good it is (given our version 9.21.UC4). This is an information field only and is not used in any query. How is the performance. Also, why is lvarchar shown as owned by informix even though the table was created by user dba. Is it a typed field. CREATE TABLE "dba".vendor_itinerary_info ( id CHAR(25) NOT NULL, index SMALLINT NOT NULL, index_oj SMALLINT NOT NULL, vendor_code CHAR(4), vendor_name VARCHAR(64,1), vendor_code_context VARCHAR(64,1), vendor_url 'informix'.lvarchar, vendor_currency CHAR(3) Thanks. We use the lvarchar datatype for some of our xml data fields. It's good for us because it holds character data up to 2K in size. We have no performance issues using this data type (it's an info only field also). BTW, we use IDS 9.30.UC3 Terrence Mullins Sr Database Administrator WagerWorks.com -----Original Message----- From: rkusenet [mailto:rkusenet@sympatico.ca] Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2003 6:30 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: lvarchar [1206] IDS 9.21.UC4 One of our varchar(255) field is turing out to be inadequate due to new requirement.
