FourGen and UNION
Posted in 1996
I am working on a report which unifies a master table with two otherwise unrelated child tables. The only way know of by which I can retrieve all the data I need in a single select statement is by select stmt1 UNION ALL select stmt2, which cannot be converted into a view because UNION cannot appear in a view. Does anybody out there have a way of using the FourGen Report Code Generator to operate on a UNION which does not involve substantial use of the pre-processor? I know a number of ways in which I can get the report done (including generating a "temporary" table to hold the results of the UNION or hacking up the generated code to include the UNION in the query--very messy), but I am very interested to know if someone has a general-purpose solution.
