Error -407: Error number zero received from the sqlexec process

We're getting this error whenever we try to do an "update statistics high for table x" (on Informix SE running on HP-UX 10.20). This only occurs for table "x". If we try the exact same SQL statement on other tables it works fine. Does anyone know why this is occuring and how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.
