Recovery mode happens when the engine is brought up after having crashed (or having been caught in an OS crash) during some long operation (like a rollback or long transaction rollback). There is no good way to force the engine to a usable state except to wait for the transaction to complete rolling forward and then backwards. This can take hours (I once waited 7 hours for one of these). Tech support CAN force the engine to skip over the recovery BUT THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED and the techie will give you a hard time before allowing him/herself to be convinced that this is "good thing". It is not a good thing as your databases will be in a VERY inconsistent state with partial transactions everywhere. There is a good chance that several indexes will be damaged. Best to have LOTS of patience and wait it out. Art S. Kagel
