There are suggestions for updating statistics to best utilize the optimizer and take minimum time. They are in the release notes for 7.2x in $INFORMIXDIR/release/en_us/0333/SERVERS_7.2 and earlier version of these recommendations are in SERVERS_7.1. There seem to be at least three different versions of the SERVERS_7.2 file one with no recommendation, one with the same recommendation as the 7.1 file and the updated version. You may have any of the above. You can download the utility package I uploaded to IIUG software archive. It contains an ESQL program that implements the latest recommendations. Someone else did a shell script version which implements most of the V7.1 recommendations. Art S. Kagel
