RE: ODBC and SQL book recommendations
Posted in 1998
Hi,
The best book on ODBC is "Inside ODBC" by Kyle Geiger,
Microsoft Press. Though it only covers ODBC 2.0,
Geiger was the chief architect of ODBC. I found
this book very useful in my last project which
involved ODBC. Also get the Microsoft ODBC SDK
Programmers Reference for ODBC Ver 2.x or 3.x,
whichever you are using. You can also download
a Winhelp format help file which has full details
about using ODBC 3.0 from www.microsoft.com/data
(search for ODBC under this site - the file
is a self-extracting EXE called ODBCSPEC.EXE).
VC++'s online help also has good info on ODBC.
The above resources will give you generic
ODBC info. You should also look at the
help files for the Informix ODBC driver
that you will be using - these will give
driver-specific features / limitations etc.
For SQL, any well-known book should do,
supplemented with the help and examples
that will come with the SQL utility you
will be using to access the database
(isql and dbaccess for Informix).
