If there is no 4gl investment > then I would hesitate to recommend New-Era. It's important to understand NewEra's positioning to qualify this. NewEra is probably not the best tool for one-off apps, or apps on a smaller scale. However, the structure does allow for a team-oriented, large scale development. I would suggest that NewEra might grow into all-encompassing systems better than Delphi (and please, this is just an educated guess based on very little experience. Ahah - but this model is not as flexible as the Informix-NewEra model for partitioning. Yes, I'm sure that even VB does or will support that approach (NewEra supports it too), but the major issue (IMHO) that made partitioning desirable was the need to avoid sending huge amounts of data across the network. What is nice with NewEra is that you can have the parts that really would choke up the network sitting on the data server and not consuming any bandwidth at all. This of course assumes you have a real database server, not one of those Mickey Mouse NT things... <ducks and runs> -- Ciao, Billy +------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure... | +------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
