Re: Informix (raw or cooked)?

I thought this one had already died a natural death. Here's my two bits worth Cooked is a UNIX file which is administered by Informix but always uses the UNIX OS to route. It also means that superblocks and other stuff are handled by UNIX as any normal file on the system. In addition to this normal OS overhead Informix is also managing the internals of the file so that it conforms to some form standard recognized by the engine If you use RAW then UNIX has much less to do. The reasons are that this is not a UNIX file. It is the equivalent to it's own filesystem and the data is stored in a different way Clearly RAW is faster. If in doubt consult the manuals for OnLine or get a proper consultant in to advise -- Terry Boyland
