onarchive vs ontape
Posted in 1999

All,
I know this might be a very old debate, but will some kind
soul give me a good excuse for not using onarchive. I'm
on 7.23 UW7 and don't have a 3rd party storage manager, so
it's ontape or onarchive. I need to convince others that
point-in-time recovery is not worth the effort of using
onarchive.
TIA

Reasons for not using onarchive: 1. It's utter crap 2. It doesn't offer point-in-time recovery. Neil Truby Londis Stores Hampton Hill, UK
Hi, Another issue is that I heard the rumoer that in next versions the onarchive tool won't be deliverd anymore. Greetings, Rob Prop

If my memory serves me correctly from my days at INFORMIX Tech Support, onarchive will continue to be part of the archive picture for some time to come. Reason: It is still the recommended archiving tool for Informix SAP customers. Take care. =============================================== Clifton M. I only know of one Informix/SAP installation in the US that uses onarchive, and
they may be using onbar by now. There may be a few others but they're very few
and far between. Onarchive I believe is still supported, but not
encouraged. Virtually everyone uses ontape or onbar. At this stage of the
game, Willem, Onarchive is a criminally poor choice.
