Can you ping your server by its alias? Can the server ping you by yours? - Do you have a services file in \\WINDOWS containing a port number for sqlexec? You can use the same services file on your server. The WINSOCK error usually means that the TCP/IP protocol stack is not loaded. I once ran into a problem with an earlier version of INET-PC that required me to manually load WINSOCK.DLL. Intersolv provides a DLL Loader that you can put in the Windows Startup program group to pre-load WINSOCK. To test if this is the problem, open a telnet window to your server. (This loads WINSOCK.) While the window is open try ILOGIN. If it works you know that INET isn't loading WINSOCK properly and will either need an update or the DLL loader.
