ODBC return codes
Posted in 2003
Hello all! Have any of you heard of return codes being lost or incorrectly returned to an ODBC client on a PC? I have had a couple of customers claim their VB apps on a PC using ODBC are only receiving return codes of 0 when calling stored procedures. From the DB side and our application side it appears an error code was returned. I had this happen at another customer site using JDBC, and upgrading to the most recent version of the JDBC made the problem disappear. Our systems are Solaris 8, IDS 9.30UC1-1 I have no control over the customer PC/ODBC versions so am hoping this is a known issue. Hold the presses... Before I hit send I found the following in the ODBC release notes (SDK 2.81) and thought I would share. When a stored procedure with a return value is executed using the IBM Informix ODBC driver, errors returned by the procedure are not returned to the application until a fetch is called on the result set. Error information from stored procedures with no returned values is available immediately following the execution of the procedure. Hopefully, this will save one of you some frustration.
