ontape restores of downlevel database

Trying to restore an ontape of a database taken with 7.23 to a 7.24 Informix instance. Getting 'cannot fork server connection'. Is it even POSSIBLE to do the restore, or is this telling me something else?? Doug Agnew DBA Charlotte Pipe & Foundry dagnew@charlottepipe.com

Reinstall your 7.23 software, restore the database using 7.23 (ie point INFORMIXDIR at the 7.23 bin directory, bring the engine to FULL MULTIUSER (onmode -m if not there after restore), shutdown engine, restart using 7.24 software which will perform automatic upgrade of sysmaster and sysutils databases.
