Re: Split comp.databases.informix!

The consensus seems to be not to split c.d.i, and I am of that opinion also. Not because there aren't good reasons to, but mostly because there isn't a good reasonable/covenient/effective way to do it that addresses what people view as problems, or at least irritations. I didn't see many specifc reasons posted for wanting to split the newsgroup, perhaps because the No's came so quickly. :-) If there *are* problems that you're having with reading or posting to this forum, there may be some things that can be done to make your particular situation better. If you're on the mailing list and using a simple mail program that presents the messages in straight chronological order, consider using a better mail reader that will sort by subject and allow you to delete entire threads at one time. If you have the above problem, or if you read news but can't get to articles before they expire, you could define an e-mail alias on your system only for receiving the mailing list. The alias would append incoming mail to a holding file, which you could read as time permits. You might combine this approach with some kind of mail filter. These are just a couple of suggestions. If you're having other problems that you think I may be able to help with, contact me directly. I will tell you ahead of time that I do not keep up on all of the latest public domain and shareware e-mail filters, etc. I have written some awk scripts to manipulate e-mail messages in a sendmail environment, but that's about it. They do things like sort messages by subject, etc. If you'd like copies of them, let me know.
