Informix Raw Device problems on HP-UX

Hello, We are running HP-UX v10.01 with Informix On-Line. Our Informix installation uses raw devices. We have a physical disk, 'c0t3d0', which we wanted to map as logical volume '/dev/vgsap/lvol8', and link to '/informix/<SYSID>/physdev2/data4'. We had already successfully linked the same physical device, '/informix/<SYSID>/physdev2/data2', to a different logical volume. We issued the following commands: 'lvcreate /dev/vgsap'. 'lvextend -l 175 /dev/vgsap/lvol8 /dev/dsk/c0t3d0' 'ln -s /dev/vgsap/rlvol8 /informix/SHL/sapdata/physdev2/data4'. We thought that the operation was successful. However, our database crashed after a resource intensive operation. Informix technical support said that the '/informix/SHL/sapdata/data2' chunk, the one in the same physical disk as the 'data4' which we had just defined, was corrupted. It contained non-Informix (presumably OS) data. My questions are as follows: (1) Did our 'lvcreate', 'lvextend' and/or 'ln -s' cause the problem, directly or indirectly, since we mapped out a new chunk to the physical device, 'c0t3d0', in which the data was corrupted? (2) If so, what can we do to solve the problem? It is a matter of reorganizing the data so that there is only one chunk per physical device (i.e. combining 'data2' or 'data4') (3) We had recently added HP-UX patch 'PHKL_8712'. Will redoing the same operation, with the addition of the patch to the OS, solve the problem? (4) Under what ircumstances will Informix raw devices get overriden by non-Informix data (or get overriden, period)?
