Standard Engine
Posted in 2007
Neil Truby needed installation media for a recent Informix Standard Engine (SE) release on Linux. The copy he found, 7.25UC4, failed during install with repeated "Incorrectly built binary which accesses errno or h_errno directly" messages — an old-binary vs. newer glibc/Linux mismatch. Jonathan Leffler said the options were to downgrade Linux or obtain a newer SE build, which meant going through IBM support/sales. After some joking about reseller media libraries, Neil reported that other posters had pointed him to a free download location for the newer media, resolving his problem. His follow-up question about the benefits of moving the customer from SE to IDS went unanswered in the thread.

You are going to have to speak to (horror of horrors) an IBM person, in Tech Support or Sales. Or give up on the customer on whose behalf you're trying to obtain the unobtainable. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2007.0826 -- http://dbi.perl.org/

I deleted that part of the "comprehensive media library" at the same time that I threw out all my V2000 video tapes, my dictaphone, my phonograph and my IIUG instructions for spindle balancing for IDS. Also, the person to whom the Sept 2005 comment was addressed has Seen The Light and is now a loyal Ardenta customer! Will Morgan Stanley be next? Or are you still stuck in the Dark Ages .... ;-) In fact, I hope to persuade the SE customer to upgrade to IDS, as there's a promotion on for so doing at present. But I'm going to look a complete arse if I turn up on their site unable even to get the SE media to show how easy the upgrade is ...

Thanks to Goradz, and to Cats for pointing out where the media is freely available for download. I've visited the customer who has an elderly green-screen 4GL-on-Standard-Engine system. Strategically they are moving away from Informix. What benefits, other than the ability to take online backups, can I offer them to move to IDS? Thx Neil
