Desperate Plea for Help

I am experiencing some difficulty with Informix 4.0, and I want to tap the brains of the net before diving into the shark-infested waters of Informix customer support. (I *hate* voice mail and other computerized phone systems.) I have an application using dynamic SQL in C, that worked just fine until I had to add "WITH HOLD" to the DECLARE CURSOR statements (because of the sudden need to occasionally have a transaction inside a multiply nested SELECT-FETCH loop.) Unfortunately, adding "WITH HOLD" causes certain complex nested selects (that don't have any transactions inside them) to blow up with the dreaded "Can't read sorted rows, file not open" error. Has anything resembling this happened to anyone else? Did Informix have a solution for you, or did you have to look for your own solution? If the latter, did you find one?
