Database Access Slow

Can any body help me in finding out the reason why our Database Server access all of a sudden becomes extremly slow. ( "dbaccess" take a long time to connect ). Our application also takes a long time to connect. We are using Informix Verson 7.31.UD4 on SCO-Unix Release 3.2v5.0.6. Please advice how to find the problem. Dhaya
