dbxs select rounds output - why???

When sperform is used to query the database for a field of type small float it returns a complete ( unrounded ) value. But , when the same field is selected in a select query through Informix dbaccess it returns a rounded value. for example : value returned thru' sperform query = 5.136 value returned thru' select query = 5.14 Is there some switch which disables the rounding off in the select query? Any other suggestions,solutions etc are welcome. thanks
