However, I wonder if the > second approach would give better results. We have used both methods (Informix and HP-UX mirroring) - the big pro for informix mirroring is that the engine itself does the recovery - you never even know that a disk went down. Is AIX mirroring as seamless? We never had occasion to find out if HP-UX mirroring was, but the Online mirroring was so seamless we had to include a check in our engine monitor to see if a drive was down. Also if you need to do some disk shuffling the informix mirroring really helps out. We moved an engine from 4 dinky drives to 2 larger drives. All we did was take down the original mirrors, point them at the newer drives, bring them up - at which point the engine imaged them to match, once they were fully imaged we took the engine down, made the mirrors the primaries and brought the engine back up. We transferred an entire 2GB database with about 5 minutes of downtime. This is also a BIG argument for using logical links as device names instead of "/dev/rdsk/xxxxx". cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, BSMC Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com _____________________________________________________________________________ Don't Panic - HHGTTG _____________________________________________________________________________ Any opinions expressed herein are my own and not those of my employers. _____________________________________________________________________________
