Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
rkusenet noted an article saying Walmart.com and its sister sites would move to a Java platform on IBM WebSphere and Informix by 2005, although Oracle had listed Walmart.com as a customer. Serge Rielau and Neil Truby said large companies often run every vendor's products. Discussion only, no technical question.

I knew that Walmart stores use Informix. They are an old customer of
Informix. But I thought that Walmart.com (their online store)
uses Oracle.

"Wal-Mart's common IT foundation is textbook, but not often seen
in the real world. Now Wal-Mart is engaged in bringing its online
operations onto a common platform as well. An initiative dubbed
Global.com that encompasses the retailer's online sites -- http://www.walmart.com, http://www.samsclub.com, http://www.asda.com, and
http://www.walmartmexico.com.mx -- will
move by 2005 from the disparate technology platforms on which they
were developed onto a Java-based platform running on IBM's WebSphere
and an Informix database. That way, "scalability is easier to
maintain," says Matt Carey, VP of technology, who started as a
programmer trainee writing code in CICS Cobol for Sam's Clubs
merchandising systems."

this one mentions Walmart.com as an oracle customer.

I wonder how many such customers switch from O to Informix :-)
Many big customers have any vendor/system under the sun.

If it's the same as in Europe FTSE 100 companies are so acquistive that it's
likely that you could take *any* mainstream technology and one of their
subsiduaries will have it deployed somewhere. Our largest retail client for
example is predominantly IDS, but has SQL Server and Oracle systems for some
specialist functions. Oh, and they have an AS/400 so no doubt will be
registered as a DB2 user as well.
