RE: DB Sapces....

What's your backup strategy?
Informix onbar - smallest unit of work is a dbspace.
So if you have a 1 TB database in only 1 dbspace.... however long it
takes your backup software (i.e. netbackup/etc) to backup 1TB of
data...... that is how long your DB backup will be.
If your DB is across 10 dbspaces, .... and can multi-stream your
backup.... you'll have a faster backup, ....
And you know your backup time generally dictates your restore time....
so how fast will you need to restore???

Subject: DB Sapces....
Hello Friends,
I'm looking for the reasoning in deciding on how many DB Spaces to use
on a
given system.
Specifically, if using a SAN where disk IO and LUN size isn't an issue,
what
would be the reason for using multiple DBSpaces as opposed to 1 large
one?
Also, is a 60/40 ration of data space to log space a valid one when
sizing?
I'm sure this is a pedestrian question for most of you, but I am
currious.
Tam.
