Shared Memory problems

We are having some (human) communication problems regarding the amount of addressable memory that OnLine can address for a particular platform. My questions are simple For the following platform, IDS 7.24.UC7 on HP9000/899 running HP-UX 11 1. What is the maximum amount of shared memory that IDS can address ? Remember, this is HP-UX and NOT Solaris or AIX or whatever. Its HP ( did I say it was HP ? ) 2. What is the maximum shared memory segment size that can be added ? Remember, its HP ) The general belief is that a max of 1.75GB can be addressed (specific to HP), but this can be altered to 2.75GB by applying 'chatr' to all of the Informix binaries. Not that I don't trust this method, but does anyone have any knowledge of doing this ?? and does it work ?? Are there known problems ?? I have got the Cavaliers and Roundheads on opposite sides of the boardroom table pointing fingers left, right and centre with you'rs truly in the middle, todger on block, so to speak. So I would appreciate any quick responses. Thanks as always Sean

Not that I don't trust this method, but does anyone have This is a general HP-UX thing. Goto www.dejanews.com and do a power search. Search for chatr shared memory in forum comp.databases.informix and you will find an article by CHRIS COREY:- "Question to Informix & HP/UX guru's, on shared memory segments greater than 2 GB for HP/UX 11.0 using Informix 7.30UC3-1. First, apply OS patch PHKL_16236 to HP/UX 11.0 then refer to 7.30UC3 release notes item 18 where it refers to the 'chatr -M <executable>' command (change attribute). It discussesthe SHMEM_MAGIC feature to enable the OS to access 1GB of memory above the 1.75 GB limit (actual limit without the patch). This SHMEM_MAGIC feature effectively supports 2.75 GB of shared memory." I would therefore talk to Informix and consider upgrading to 7.30 ( or even 7.31 which will be out soon). Searching for just chatr shared memory shows an article by "ECStahl" saying that the maximum size of a segment is 1Gb. Hence >1GB required more than one shared memory segment. I would to talk Informix Technical Support.. >any knowledge of doing this ?? and does it work ??
