Multiprocessor Code (was RE: number of CPU's)
Posted in 1999
Is enabling the multiprocessor code just changing the MULTIPROCESSOR line in the onconfig from 0 to 1 and the NUMCPUVPS to # of processors -1, or is there more to it? Is there anything else I should be looking at? (Yes, I have been looking at the manuals!) We have 2 processors now on our HP9000 K250 (40 concurrent users) but are adding additional in the next few weeks. We are on Informix ver. 7.23 moving to 7.31 before the end of the year. Thanks for any input... If you have 4 processors, however, you can use the multiprocessor code and know fer sure that its worth it. Also, I myself went from a 2-processor HP J200 box to a 4 processor HP K260 box, and I now have a VERY happy database (and users). The performance is not twice as fast, but in some cases 4 or 5 times as fast. Now whether this is due more to the new RAID array, or the additional memory...I don't know. But I look down sometimes and see all 4 processors getting beat on............. You definitely want the 4 processors for DSS-heavy stuff.
