RE: Canvassing opinion - from RDS version 4 to what?

I am currently running 4GL (not RDS) on AIX 4.1.5 with no problems. Personally, I would choose AIX over NT, but I'm sure that there are other opinions... -----Original Message----- From: ian@tubeway-army.demon.co.uk [SMTP:ian@tubeway-army.demon.co.uk] Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 1998 10:41 AM To: informix-list@rmy.emory.edu Subject: Canvassing opinion - from RDS version 4 to what? Hi All, I've just joined a company who are running RDS 4GL version 4 and SQL version 4. Both products are running on an IBM RS6000 with AIX 3.1. Now, AIX 3.1 was long since not supported by IBM and so I ned to consider a move up to the latest release of AIX and probably on a newer model of computer. If I do this I need to consider our Informix products. Now, I haven't kept pace recently with what Informix have been up to and so I wondered if any of you out there could advise me on what comparative Informix development environment I should go for. The software that has been written is fairly basic in the sense that there is nothing in it that I think I need to worry about if compatability with a newer version of Informix was to be considered. Most of the earlier releases of Informix seemed backward compatible. With the recent product reorganisations that have been going on can someone please advise where I should go from RDS? Yes, I know it will depend on what I want to do but just assume for now that it will probably be the case that I just want to recompile what i have at the moment and carry on from there. Also, is AIX worth sticking with as the platform on which to run? What about NT or others? Any ideas/comments/views most welcome. Cheers, Ian.
