Help: switching ANSI db to non-ANSI

Greetings, I have inadvertantly created a database mode ansi and would like to know if there is any way (ie. editing a system table) to change this without unloading the database, recreating it and then reloading it. We are running Informix SE 4.0 on a Dec machine running Ultrix 4.3. Any pointers would be very appreciated!
