Database in Exclusive Mode

We are having a problem with the "DATABASE <db-name> EXCLUSIVE" statement. First, we prepare a cursor from a construct and open, do a bunch of inserts, and close it. From this, we prepare another cursor, open and fetch one record into a program record and display accordingly. Great!! All works so far. Now, we exit this function and go to a function that does the dreaded "DATABASE <db-name> EXCLUSIVE" statement, does a couple of selects and updates, then "CLOSE DATABASE" and "DATABASE <db-name>". Great again!! OK, here it is, without exitting so far, we go back and do the exact same sequence in the first ex. and are getting -410 errors. Problem is, it's erroring on an INSERT Statement.
