If you are asking if you can use like or LIKE in an Informix SQL
WHERE clause the answer is YES.
i.e.
SELECT *
FROM TABLE
WHERE char_str LIKE 'x%';
or
SELECT *
FROM TABLE
WHERE char_str like 'x%';
