This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Graeme Muirhead reported OnLine 7.2 on HP-UX 10.20 crashing several times a day with Bus Error and Segmentation Violation asserts, and errno 28 writing the /tmp shmem file, after someone deleted a /tmp/shmem file. Rainer Temme blamed the deleted shared-memory file. Pankaj advised logging a support call and checking af files, patches and syslog. Anil Karkera suggested defects #84642 and #95917 and upgrading beyond 7.24.UC6.

Can anyone explain the following entries in the online.log file. Informix is going down several times a day. The only background info I can get is that someone deleted the /tmp/shmem.xxxxxxx file.
We are running Online 7.2 on HP-UX 10.20.

Hi Graeme,
some Systems map Shared-Moemory to files,
and what you wrote looks like someone has deleted the Shared-Memory-File
that Informix uses...boooooom....

Hi Graeme ,
Do you have an Informix Support Contract. If so log a call. We run 7.22UC3 on a 10.20 box and do not see problems like yours. Also check the /tmp/af.xxxxxx files. The information inside might be of help to you. This info along with the shared memory dump is normally sent to informix .
Have you installed the lastest HP-UX patch bundle as well ?
Have you checked the unix syslog.log file to make sure you do not have a hardware issue ?
Hope this helps.

Graeme, you probably are hitting defects #84642 and/or #95917,
I would recommend an upgrade beyond 7.24.UC6, preferably the
latest release in the 7.24 family.
