Automatic paging
Posted in 1997
Hi! remember when I visited the 1994 IWUC, there was a company selling a product that would send an alert specific message to your pager. This allowed you to setup alert conditions which you think are high priority, such as logical logs 90% full, and the utility would send you a message on your pager so that you could take the appropriate action. Has anyone used a product like this? what's the technology involved? would my paging service have to have some specific setup/equipment/service? my system will be moving to a 24x7 environment, and within recent times my logical logs filled up without adequate notice (I have a cronjob which emails me if my logs are 50% full, but i'm not there at 1:00 a.m.! a pager would ensure that i'm notified even when i'm on the road, away from my email). can anyone think of another way to be adequately notified of the status of my system, without having to have personnel on-site 24x7? Thanks for your response.
